Fig. 10. Locations where leptocephali of one species of temperate eel (Anguilla australis) and four species of tropical eels have been collected historically (white symbols, morphological identification only), and in three recent surveys from 1995, 2000, 2005 (black symbols, genetic identification) that included some specimens not identified genetically due to the formalin preservation in 1995 (Anguilla sp.). Some of the major currents in the region are shown, such as the South Equatorial Current (SEC), South Equatorial Countercurrent (SECC), and the East Australian Current (EAC).
